Tips for Riding Shotgun

Being the driver is a big responsibility, especially when going on long road trips. But, being the passenger in the front seat comes with its own responsibilities and rules of etiquette. Here are a few things to think about next time you ride shotgun.

  • You may be called upon to help the driver navigate. The driver shouldn't be on his/her phone looking at directions and being distracted from the road. So if needed, take charge of the gps and help lead the way.
  • Don't mess with the air conditioner or heat. If the driver's preferred temperature doesn't match yours, you're just going to have to deal with it. The best thing for you to do is to close the vents on your side or point them away from you.
  • You must stay awake, especially during a road trip. It may be hard to stay awake when you're riding in the car, but it's not in good taste, when riding up front, to fall asleep on the driver. Make conversation to help you both stay awake.
